Ms. Maureen Abla Ahiataku

Ms. Maureen Abla Ahiataku is a Principal Meteorologist and External Relations Officer at Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet). I am currently at the Hydrometeorological unit for research and my research areas include Rainfall variability, flood and drought, Forecast Verification, User Engagement and Citizen Science. I am also the Team Coordinator for Ghana Climate Atlas under the Danish Meteorological Institute Strategic Sector Cooperation project with GMet. I am the focal person coordinating the launch of Early Warning for All in Ghana. Additionally, my role supports international relations and responsibilities include communication with foreign entities, advising at World Meteorological Organization (WMO) meetings, managing projects, and coordinating international visits. It also involves promoting GMet, fostering cultural understanding and other duties related to external relations and international cooperation.
I was the lead for GCRF African-SWIFT WP1 in GMet with the focus on user engagement and co-production. I used to be a forecaster at the Kotoka International Airport Meteorological Office and I have the expertise in Numerical Weather Prediction modelling (WRF model).
Education: MSc in Atmospheric Science and Engineering from Ewha Womans University, South Korea. BSc in Meteorology and Climate Science from KNUST, Ghana
